What Instagram Highlights actually are
Highlights are curated Story collections that creators pin to the top of their profiles. Unlike regular Stories, which disappear after 24 hours, Highlights stay visible indefinitely. Creators use them to organise persistent content like travel diaries, product FAQs, behind-the-scenes series, business hours, recurring events and pretty much any topic they want to keep accessible without crowding their grid.
A Highlight album consists of one cover image (a circular thumbnail on the profile) and one or more Story-format pieces inside it — each item being either a vertical photo or a short vertical video. Spector downloads all of them in a single operation: every Story in the album as a separate file, plus the cover image, all returned together.
Why people save full Highlight albums
- Travel diaries and event recaps. Many creators document trips or multi-day events as Highlights. Saving the whole album gives you the full timeline, not just the most recent piece.
- Recipe and tutorial collections. Highlights are a common home for step-by-step content that benefits from being archived locally and rewatched offline.
- Brand FAQ albums. Businesses often build “How to order”, “Shipping” or “Sizing” Highlights. If you operate a brand yourself, having an offline copy of your published guides is a useful backup.
- Personal archives. Your own Highlights are often the closest thing to a personal scrapbook that exists on the platform. Spector lets you keep them as a permanent collection rather than relying on Instagram’s ongoing availability.
How to download a Highlight album
- Open the public profile that owns the Highlight. Tap the Highlight cover circle to open the album.
- Tap the three-dot menu on any item in the album and choose Copy link. Alternatively, tap the share arrow and copy from there. The URL contains the Highlight ID, which is what Spector needs to fetch the rest.
- Paste the link into the form above (the Highlight tab is pre-selected). Spector returns every Story in the album as a separate file, plus the cover image. Save them individually, or use a “save all” shortcut where your browser supports it.
Cover images at full size
The Highlight cover image you see on a profile is a small circular thumbnail, typically rendered at around 100 pixels. Instagram actually stores a larger version of the cover — often 320×320 or higher. Spector returns the larger original, which is what you want if you are studying a creator’s visual identity, refreshing your own brand assets or building a press kit.
Privacy: only public profiles
Highlights belonging to private accounts are not accessible to Spector. If a creator has set their profile to private, only their approved followers can see Highlights at all, through the regular Instagram app. We do not work around that, and we believe respecting privacy choices is more important than feature completeness.
What you get back
Every Story inside the album is delivered in its native format — JPG for photos and MP4 for videos, both at the original 1080×1920 resolution. The cover image is delivered as a separate JPG. Files are named in a way that preserves the album order, so you can stitch them back together easily if needed.
