About Spector
Spector is a small, independently run web tool with one clear job: help people save publicly available Instagram content to their personal devices, without making them sign up for anything or hand over passwords.
What we do
Spector resolves public Instagram URLs into direct media links. You paste a link; we ask Instagram for the underlying file; your browser downloads it directly from Instagram’s servers. There is no app to install, no account to create and no software running on your machine other than your normal web browser.
We support every public format Instagram exposes — feed videos, vertical reels, ephemeral stories, photo carousels, profile pictures, IGTV episodes and pinned Highlight albums. New formats added by Instagram tend to be supported within days.
What we believe
- Privacy beats convenience. We do not collect personal data when you simply paste a link. We do not store the URLs you submit, and we do not sell any user information.
- Public means public, private means private. Spector works only with public Instagram content. We do not bypass private accounts, Close Friends lists or any other privacy setting. We never will.
- Creators own their work. Even when Instagram makes a post public, the creator still holds the copyright. Use what you save responsibly: back up your own posts, archive what you have permission to use, and credit creators when you share their work elsewhere.
- Free should mean free. Spector costs nothing to use, has no paid tier and no usage limits aimed at extracting payment. Display advertising on some pages keeps the lights on; if you do not see any ads, you are not paying in any other way either.
Who runs Spector
The Service is operated by Spector Team, based in United States. The team is intentionally small — a couple of engineers, occasional design and writing help, and a lot of automated infrastructure to keep the parser running.
We are reachable for almost anything: support questions, partnership ideas, press enquiries, copyright matters, accessibility feedback. Use the Contact page or write directly to [email protected]. We try to respond to every message within one business day.
How Spector works under the hood (in plain language)
When you paste an Instagram URL, our backend looks at the link, identifies the type of content (video, photo, reel, story, IGTV or highlight) and then asks Instagram’s public endpoints for the corresponding media metadata. Instagram returns a temporary CDN URL pointing to the actual file. We pass that URL back to your browser, which then downloads the file directly from Instagram. Our server never holds the file, never re-encodes it and never adds any watermark.
Because the URL comes straight from Instagram’s CDN, the file you receive is bit-for- bit identical to what every other public viewer gets — same resolution, same audio, same compression. Nothing degraded, nothing modified.
What we do not do
- We do not log into Instagram on your behalf.
- We do not store, copy or redistribute media files on our servers.
- We do not sell user information.
- We do not add watermarks or alter media in any way.
- We do not work around Instagram’s privacy settings.
- We do not run cryptocurrency miners, browser hijackers, push notifications or redirect scripts. The Service is just a regular website.
