Original HD & 4K quality
Get the same MP4 or JPG file Instagram serves to viewers, in the highest resolution the creator uploaded — usually 1080p, sometimes 4K for newer reels. No re-encoding, no watermarks, no quality loss.
Paste any public Instagram link and Spector will fetch the original media in HD — no login, no app install, no sign-ups. Works on phones, tablets and computers.
Instagram’s built-in “Save” option only stores posts inside the app, and screenshots flatten videos and reduce photo quality. Spector gives you the underlying file the way it was originally uploaded — so you can keep, repost (with permission), or archive your own content without losing a single pixel.

We never ask for your Instagram username or password, and there is nothing to install. Spector runs entirely in your browser — paste a public link and you are done.
Whether you are using an iPhone, an Android phone, a Windows PC, a MacBook or a Linux machine, the experience is the same. Files save to your default download folder or gallery, ready to share or back up.
We do not store the media you download, and we do not log which links you submit. The connection is encrypted with TLS, and we deliberately keep our footprint small. Read the full Privacy Policy for details.
Most links resolve in under three seconds. Our server pulls a fresh CDN URL from Instagram every time, so you always get the latest version of the file even after the creator edits or replaces a post.
Spector works exclusively with publicly visible Instagram posts. Private accounts, “Close Friends” stories and content behind login walls are intentionally not supported — we believe in respecting the privacy choices creators make on the platform.
Open the Instagram app or website and find the post, reel or story you want to keep. Tap the three-dot menu, choose Share to… and then Copy link. On desktop, simply copy the URL from the address bar of the post’s permalink page.
Come back to this page and pick the matching tab — Video, Photo, Reel, Story, IGTV or Highlight. Paste the URL into the input field. The tab tells Spector what kind of media to expect, so it can pick the right resolution and format for you.
Press the Download button. Within a few seconds you will see the original file ready to save. Tap or click it to write the file directly to your device. On mobile it usually lands in Photos or Gallery; on desktop, your Downloads folder.
Spector is built around a single paste field, but under the hood it understands every public format Instagram publishes. Open a dedicated page if you want a deeper guide for a specific media type — or just paste any link above and we will route it correctly.
Standard feed videos in MP4, including trending clips, sports highlights, behind-the-scenes posts and short tutorials.
Vertical Reels with original audio preserved — perfect for keeping background music, voiceovers and sound effects intact.
24-hour Stories from public accounts, anonymously and without notifying the poster. Save them before they vanish.
Single photos, multi-photo carousels and even profile pictures (DPs) in their full original resolution.
Long-form videos that often run 10 to 60 minutes. Spector streams large files quickly without buffering or quality loss.
Saved Story collections that creators pin to their profile. Download whole albums in a single click.
Instagram does not give creators an export button, and the platform’s “Save to phone” option re-encodes videos at lower bitrates. Spector lets you grab the original files you already published, so you can store full-quality copies on your own drive before anything happens to your account.
If you run multiple accounts or work with clients, you often need quick access to public reference posts — campaigns from competitors, mood-board material, or content a creator gave you permission to repurpose. Pasting a link is faster than asking someone to re-export and email a video file.
Public Instagram posts are increasingly part of news stories, academic studies and cultural archives. Spector provides a reliable way to capture a public post for citation while it is still online — important because creators frequently delete or edit content over time.
Teachers building lesson materials, design students collecting visual references, and language learners archiving short videos for offline study all benefit from being able to keep a stable local copy of public Instagram media.
Streaming videos repeatedly burns through mobile data. Saving a reel once and rewatching it offline is faster, kinder to your data plan and a little easier on the planet.
If you have ever screenshotted an Instagram photo, you have probably noticed how soft it looks compared to what you see on screen. That is because a screenshot captures the rendered pixels at the resolution of your display, then your operating system compresses the result into a PNG or JPEG. You end up with a downscaled, twice-compressed copy of an image that Instagram actually stores in much higher quality on its servers.
Videos are even worse. Screen recording adds an extra round of re-encoding, drops frames on slower devices and almost always strips audio if the video was muted in your feed. Spector sidesteps all of that by asking Instagram’s servers for the underlying file — the same MP4 or JPG that the original uploader sent up. You get a bit-for-bit copy of the source, which is what you want if you are archiving, editing or sharing the content with proper attribution.
Downloading is a tool, not a free pass. Just because something is technically possible does not mean every use is appropriate. We built Spector with a few simple ground rules in mind:
